How it works.
Where the shops come from
We start from open map data from OpenStreetMap contributors. Then people visit shops, shoppers tell us about changes, and we add shops that nobody has listed yet.
How we know a listing is right
Every shop shows a stamp saying how we know. They are not all equal, so we say which is which.
- Visited
- Someone from our team went to the shop and checked the details in person.
- Confirmed by the shop
- The shop itself confirmed its details to us.
- From the operator's store list
- Taken from the organisation's own list of its shops, on the date shown.
- Shoppers confirmed
- At least 3 shoppers tapped "I was here, it's still right" this year, and a person reviewed them.
- Community report
- Added or changed by a shopper and approved by a person. Nobody has visited yet.
- Map data only
- Only what is on the open map. Hours and details may be missing or out of date.
A solid stamp means a person checked. A dashed stamp means it has not been checked yet. Details older than a year are marked as such.
Fixing mistakes
Every shop page has a "Report a change" form and an "I was here" button, and there is an "Add a shop" page for shops we are missing. Nothing changes on the site until a person has reviewed it. That keeps random or mistaken edits out.
Filters
Kind of shop, what they sell, style and "good to know" only match shops where we know that detail. A shop with nothing recorded is not "no", it is "not known yet".
Privacy
If you give an email address with a report, we use it only to ask a follow-up question about that report. We do not send newsletters or share it. Taps on "I was here" are not linked to you.
Test data
While the site is being built, some shops carry a "TEST DATA" label. Their hours and details were made up to test the site. Do not rely on them.
