Privacy.

Op Shop Atlas is run by the Op Shop Atlas Team in Australia. We keep this short and plain. We try to collect as little as we can.

What we collect

• Shop details you send us. When you use "Add a shop", "Report a change" or "I was here", we receive what you type: the shop name, suburb, street, hours, notes, and (only if you choose to give it) your name or contact details. A person reads every submission before anything appears on the site.
• Tips for other shoppers. A tip you send about a shop is stored with the shop, not with your name or email, and is shown without your name once a person has read and approved it. Please do not put personal details in a tip.
• Basic server records. Like every website, the host keeps ordinary records of visits (the page asked for, the time, a network address and the type of browser) for security and to keep the site running. We do not use them to follow individuals.
• A robot check. The forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated programs. It may look at your browser and network as it does this.

What we do not collect

• Your location. If you press "Use my location", your device shares it with the page in your own browser. It is not sent to us or saved. The route and crawl pages work out their answers in your browser too: the places you type are not sent to us.
• We do not ask you to create an account, and the site does not set its own cookies or use advertising trackers at present.

Other companies involved

Some pages load things from other companies, who may receive your network address and browser details when they do, and have their own privacy policies:

• OpenStreetMap (map pictures on shop pages).
• Google Fonts (the typefaces on the site).
• Cloudflare (hosting, security, and the robot check).
• Resend (sending and receiving our email, if you write to us).

Links to Google Maps or OpenStreetMap on a shop page only open the shop's position; you leave our site when you follow them.

If we show advertising in future

We may one day show ads from Google AdSense or a similar service. If we do, those companies use cookies or similar technology to show ads, including ads based on earlier visits to this and other websites. We will ask for your consent where the law or Google's rules require it, update this page first, and add a way to change your choice. You can already opt out of personalised ads in Google's Ads Settings.

How we use what you send

To check and publish shop details, to fix mistakes, and to reply if you asked us to. We do not sell your details. Contact details you give us are used only to reply to you and are not published. The shop details you submit, once approved, become part of the public listings.

Contact details of shops (for example a shop's own email address from its public page) are kept privately. We will not email anyone from that list without a separate, deliberate decision that respects Australia's Spam Act 2003.

How long we keep it

Submissions are kept while we review them and for as long as the approved details are on the site, plus a short record of what changed and why. Server records are kept by the host for a short time.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, and a shop owner can ask us to correct or remove a listing. Under the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles you can also complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au) if you think we handled your information badly. Children

The site is for general use. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes

If we change this page we will change the date at the top.
